Poplar Stool Fall 2008

I designed this stool for a university project during which each student made a stool from a single piece of 60x10x1 inch poplar stock. Students were only able to cut and join their planks of poplar at right angles. The stool's symmetrical, monolithic form communicates sturdiness and safety while creating a complex network of facets that leads the eye around the stool. The stool can support the weight of multiple people.
